Yoga Meditation - What Can It Do For You?
Yoga is considered to one of the best physical exercises that can be practiced, but it is equally known for the benefits it can have on the mind thanks to yoga meditation. Concentration is one of the main aspects of this centuries old practice, especially in raja yoga and other types, and many people believe that this focusing of the mind has a beneficial effect on the mental well-being of the practicer, even kids. This belief has led many people to choose these exercises for more than just their physical benefits.
Yoga meditation is seamlessly integrated into the practice through a variety of techniques:
- Breathing - One of the main aspects of yoga is the use of controlled breathing. Each type of yoga uses breathing techniques differently, but the goal is to allow for a deeper level of concentration and flexibility.
- Resting poses - Yoga poses, called asanas, are used to elongate and strengthen muscles. However, some poses, called resting poses, are used to relax the mind and body.
- Chanting - Before some yoga classes, instructors may want to recite some chants in order to ready the mind for exercise.
Yoga meditation is just as important in the practice as the physical workout it provides, because it is believed that a healthy mind paves the way for a healthy, happy body.
