Yeast
Infection Symptoms: Be Sure it’s a Yeast Infection
If
you’ve ever had a yeast infection before, then you’re
familiar with the incredible discomfort and irritation of yeast
infection symptoms. However, because it can mimic other, more serious
afflictions, it’s important to be familiar with all yeast
infection symptoms to ensure you get proper treatment. For many
women, the first and often most frustrating symptoms of a yeast
infection are the intense itching and burning. These symptoms alone
can drive you to seek immediate yeast infection treatment, but an
infection is usually accompanied by other indicators.
Other
yeast infection symptoms include:
- Thick, white, cottage cheese-like vaginal
discharge that usually does not have a foul odor (the smell
is often described as being similar to bread or beer)
- Inflammation and redness of the vagina
- Pain or discomfort during sex
- Vaginal soreness
- Pain when urinating
If
you have never had a yeast infection before, then you should see
your health care provider to make sure what you’re feeling
is in fact yeast infection symptoms and not a sign of something
more serious. For example, common STD’s such as Chlamydia
can often produce symptoms similar to yeast infection symptoms,
as can trichomoniasis, both of which must be identified and treated
as soon as possible to avoid complications. However, many women
find that after their first yeast infection, they can clearly identify
yeast infection symptoms, and they choose to use an over-the-counter
treatment.
