Having a Weak Immune System and How to Stay Healthy
If you’re feeling fatigued, if you’re often catching colds and having a difficult time getting better, you may have a weak immune system.
If you have a weak immune system, you may notice you are constantly sick in bed while your friends and family haven’t been sick in ages. This can not only be annoying, but a serious ailment. Having a weak immune system can make a person more susceptible to infections, germs and cancer since the immune system fights these off.
The immune system is made up of various types of cells that help it combat parasites, bacteria and the like. It also works to prevent cancer from invading the body. This is why maintaining a healthy immune system is important.
A weak immune system can be caused by physical and emotional stress, loss of sleep, athletic overtraining, common bacterial or viral infections, certain drug therapies and surgery. Diets that contain excessive fat, alcohol or refined sugar can also lead to a weak immune system. As can a diet that doesn’t have enough protein, vitamin or mineral intake. AIDS, and other infections and diseases, can also hinder an immune system.
Those who are afraid of having a weak immune system can take several steps to prevent it. For mothers, breast feeding your children can enhance their immune systems. Exercising can help, as can stress management, having a healthy diet, and taking vitamin C, zinc, and other antioxidant supplements.
