Vitamin
C Skin Care Products: Applying Vitamin C to the Skin
Vitamin
C skin care products are quite popular these days, and when you
consider the positive effect that vitamin C has on skin, it makes
sense that skin care manufacturers would make use of vitamin C.
Vitamin C skin care products have the potential to protect your
skin from sun damage, boost collagen production, minimize fine lines
and wrinkles, and stop the negative effects of free radical damage.
Just like vitamin C is great for the inside of your body, vitamin
C also shows potential as an ingredient that you can apply directly
onto your skin.
In
lotions and other vitamin C skin care products, you’ll probably
see vitamin C listed in the form of L-ascorbic acid. One possible
problem with vitamin C in skin care is that vitamin C easily oxidizes
when exposed to air, making the vitamin C useless to your skin.
Vitamin C skin care products must also be formulated in a way that
allows the vitamin C molecules to penetrate the skin and do their
job. Many vitamin C skin care lotions are not able to reach deep
enough to help you with issues like wrinkles and sun damage.
All
in all, vitamin C does show scientific evidence of being effective
in skin care for both reducing wrinkles and rejuvenating skin collagen.
The underlying problem is finding a vitamin C skin care product
that can be easily absorbed by your skin and also be preserved long
enough to still be effective. Some vitamin C skin care creams are
so poorly manufactured that the vitamin C has been rendered useless
before you even buy it. Highly concentrated, stabilized vitamin
C skin care products tend to come with a high price tag. If you
are able to find a reliable vitamin C skin care product, studies
show there’s a 50-50 chance that you will see improvement
in your skin. Unfortunately, taking vitamin C orally does not show
the same benefits for skin care.
