Vinyasa Yoga - Get With the Flow
Vinyasa yoga is one of the most popular and widely practiced different types of yoga today. Also known as flow yoga, vinyasa means "breath-synchronized movement" and is so named because the participant moves smoothly from one position to the next on an inhale or exhale of breath.
How vinyasa yoga is practiced depends on the teacher, as there are many styles and no "rulebook" on how this form should be practiced. Some of the many types of vinyasa yoga include:
- Anusara
- Ashtanga
- Bikram/hot yoga
- Jivamukti
- Kundalini
- Power yoga
Despite the many different styles of yoga, most classes will usually include positions such as Sun salutations and a sequence called vinyasa, which includes a plank, chaturanga, and upward facing dog. However, each instructor and style is different and will include a variety of stretches and movements, so there is sure to be a style of vinyasa yoga for everyone.
While vinyasa yoga is very smooth and easy to follow, it is important that you consult with your primary care provider before you begin this, or any other form of alternative therapy to ensure you are healthy enough for yoga or any other new treatment you may want to try. |
