Types of Qigong

Types of QigongQigong is one of the most diverse alternative therapies available, and this is due to the fact that is has been developed, and is still widely practiced, throughout many parts of China and other Eastern cultures. It has grown as a practice for centuries, allowing this ancient practice to expand and grow in popularity and practice. The fact that qigong has been around for centuries and is widely practiced have resulted in the creation of many different types of qigong, which means even more options for people looking to add to their current medical care.

The main types of qigong include:

  • Qigong for health - used for preventative care, this variation of qigong often uses exercises and meditation to build and maintain a healthy body and mind.
  • Medical qigong - often uses the assistance of a qigong doctor, and makes use of massages and herbal treatments in the care of patient.
  • Spiritual qigong - since qigong focuses on the principle that illness and injury are the result of an imbalanced qi, or internal energy, many choose to meditate regularly and get in touch with their qi in order to keep it in check and stay healthy.
  • Martial arts - qigong is a major aspect of most martial arts, especially tai chi. These exercises are used to manipulate a person's qi to stay as balanced and healthy as possible.
  • Religious qigong - the practice is also used as a ritual in a variety of Eastern religious practices, mostly Confucian, Buddhist, and Daoist beliefs.

While there are many different types of qigong, they all work together in order to help keep a patient as healthy as possible. However, consult with your doctor to ensure you are healthy enough for this or any other alternative treatment.
