Vitiligo
- Symptoms and Treatments
Vitiligo is characterized
by white patches of skin that occur on different parts of the body,
and can also appear on the inside of the mouth and the inner layer
of the eyeball. If Vitiligo occurs on a part of the body that grows
hair, the hair may turn white as well. Doctors don’t yet know
the cause of vitiligo; however, there are theories that the affected
patient’s immune system may be compromised.
Symptoms of Vitiligo:
Vitiligo most commonly appears on areas of the body that are exposed
to the sun, and many patients report developing vitiligo after having
contracted a sunburn, though there is no known connection between
the two. Other areas where vitilgo appear are the groin, armpits,
buttocks, mouth, eyes, and nostrils. In some cases, the condition
only appears in small, limited areas. It also may appear on only
one side of the body; however, it is also possible to contract it
equally on both sides of the body.
Treatments for Vitiligo:
There are a number of topical prescription treatments for vitiligo.
You should contact your physician to find out which course of action
will be best suited to you. Because it is thought to be directly
linked to the immune system, taking a natural immune system enhancer
can have positive effects, and possibly prevent reoccurrence.
