Tags - Unsightly but Harmless
Skin tags are characterized by
the growth of a small, benign stalk from the skin that may be flesh
colored, slightly pink, or brown. They are harmless, and very common;
roughly half of the population has acquired a skin tag at some point
during their life. Though most people develop skin tags later in
life, children have been known to develop them on points of their
bodies where there skin experiences friction. Pregnant women’s
hormone levels often trigger the formation of skin tags as well.
Skin tags can grow all over the body, some of the more common areas
include:
- Underarms
- Breast
- Neck
- Upper chest
Skin tags are not dangerous; however, they
are unsightly and can be removed easily by a dermatologist. He or
she may remove them through electrotherapy, freezing, or incision,
depending on how deep the root is. If you have skin tags that you
would like to have removed, consult your doctor or dermatologist
to find out your best options for removal.
