Pruritis
- Symptoms and Treatments
Can you imagine feeling a thousand
bugs crawling beneath your skin, itching and clawing their way out?
You scratch and scratch, but the itch doesn't go away. If you are
experiencing this sensation, you may be suffering from pruritis.
Pruritis is a complex skin irritation related to your histamine
production below your skin. With pruritis, histamines are released
hyperactively, signaling to your brain that you have an itch. In
some cases, it can become so serious that it leads to severe anxiety
and depression.
You may contract pruritis if you have had any of the following conditions:
- Eczema
- Chicken pox
- Hives
- Hepatitis
- Kidney failure
- Anemia
If you think that you may be suffering from
pruritis, you can try some simple remedies at home, such as soaking
in warm water, antibiotic cleansers, natural remedies, and over-the-counter
allergy medications. If your condition is more serious, and you
are not suffering from any of the aforementioned conditions, you
should consult a physician. Due to the possibility of depression
and anxiety associated with pruritis, you should pay close attention
to your moods. Depression can be serious, especially if left untreated.
There are a number of medications available today for the treatment
of depression.
