Pityriasis
Alba - Symptoms and Treatments
Your skin is your largest organ,
and any sign of irritation or discoloration should be taken seriously.
Pityriasis Alba is a skin condition that mostly occurs to children
before they reach puberty that is characterized by the whitening
of the skin mostly around the face. With all skin conditions, it
is important to be aware of what is causing the symptoms, so that
you can be sure they aren’t related to something more serious.
Pityriasis Alba Symptoms:
- Lightening of the skin, particularly on
the face
- May appear on the neck, chest, and arms
as well
- Skin may flake
- When exposed to the sun, the affected area
will not burn or tan
Pityriasis Abla Treatments:
Doctors do not treat pityriasis abla because it eventually goes
away on its own, and there is no pain involved. There are, however,
some topical agents that may help it to fade more quickly, including
moisturizers and hydrocortisone. If the condition changes or begins
to cause pain, you should contact your physician to ensure that
there isn’t another condition causing the symptoms.
