Perioral
Dermatitis - Dermatitis of the Mouth
It may appear as if you have acne
around your mouth; there are small red, puss-filled bumps all around
your mouth, chin, and upper lips. However, it may not be acne at
all; it may be perioral dermatitis, a type of dermatitis that forms
around your mouth. Young women are the most likely to acquire periorial
dermatitis, but it has been known to happen to children and men
as well.
Symptoms of Perioral Dermatitis:
- Red bumps around the mouth, some may be
filled with pus
- Peeling
- Often misses a small area of skin surrounding
the lips
Treatments of Perioral Dermatitis:
If you suspect that you have perioral dermatitis, you should contact
your physician or healthcare provider to determine what the best
course of action is for treatment. He or she may prescribe an oral
or topical antibiotic. In addition to prescription medications,
your physician may recommend a course of natural skincare products,
both in topical form and in an oral supplement. Keeping your skin
healthy can prevent adverse skin reactions such as perioral dermatitis
from forming.
