Hypopigmentation
and White Scars: The Result of Acne
Hypopigmentation, also commonly
known as white scarring, is classified by whitening of the skin.
It is the opposite of hyperpigmentation, or darkening of the skin.
Whereas hyperpigmentation is caused by the overproduction of melanin,
hypopigmentation is the result of melanin production failure. Melanin
production is usually inhibited in response to a skin lesion, such
as acne. Hypopigmentation is present in a number of other conditions,
including:
- Leprosy
- Albinism
- Pityriasis Alba
- Tinea Versicolor
While hypopigmentation may be visually displeasing,
especially if it is on your face as the result of acne, it is not
painful or serious, and your physician would most likely recommend
not treating it because it usually clears up on its own. Properly
treating your acne can help prevent hypopigmentation, or white scarring,
from forming. There are a number of skincare products to treat and
prevent acne. Natural skincare products have shown positive results
in helping to clear acne and stop it from forming. By giving your
skin the proper nutrients through nutritional supplements and proper
skincare, your skin will have a clear, healthy glow.
