Folliculitis
- Symptoms and Treatments
Folliculitis refers to the infection
of your hair follicles, and can be serious enough in some cases
to result in permanent hair loss. Folliculitis is characterized
by the presence of small, white pimples around the hair follicles.
There are varying degrees of folliculitis, and most cases aren’t
severe enough that they will end up in hair loss; however, it is
always best to consult a physician to determine the severity and
possible risks associated with this condition, especially if it
doesn’t clear up on its own within the first few days. The
causes of folliculitis include:
- Perspiration
- The result of shaving
- Skin lesions or injuries
- Exposure to harsh chemicals
If you feel that you may be suffering from
folliculitis, and it doesn’t appear to be healing, you should
consult a dermatologist. Because there are varying degrees of folliculitis
that can have serious consequences, it’s best to consult a
physician before permanent damage occurs. However, if your condition
doesn’t seem to be too severe, over-the-counter acne medications,
or natural acne remedies, may help speed the healing process along.
