Cellulitis
- The Result of Compromised Immunity
Your skin is your largest organ,
and it is also your first line of defense against infection. When
you have an open sore, or when your immune system isn't working
properly, your skin may not protect you against cellulitis, a bacterial
skin infection. Cellulitis is characterized by redness, swelling,
tenderness, and the affected area may also feel warm to the touch.
It can occur anywhere on the body, and happens to both children
and adults.
Cellulitis can be more likely to occur if your immune system is
weakened. For example, your immune system may be compromised if
you have certain health conditions, including:
- Diabetes
- Skin Lesions
- Serious illnesses, such as cancer
Depending on the severity of your cellulitis,
your physician may prescribe oral or intravenous antibiotics. If
you think that you may be suffering from this condition, you should
contact a physician or healthcare provider as soon as possible.
If left untreated, cellulitis may lead to more serious conditions.
When your immune system is weak, small bacteria can wreak havoc
on your body. Doing what you can through lifestyle, diet, and supplemental
nutrition can be a precautionary measure against cellulitis infections
and other health problems.
