Acid Reflux and Sinus Problems Are Linked
Because acid reflux and
sinus problems are issues stemming from the pharynx, larynx, mouth
and nose, it isn’t difficult to see why some relate the two
ailments with one another. Acid reflux is caused when liquid in
the stomach makes its way back into the esophagus. This back up
can inflame the lining of the esophagus since the liquid can contain
acid and pepsin produced in the stomach.
Sinus problems, like sinus headaches and sinus infections, are caused
when the sinuses become inflamed due to the hardening of mucus in
the nasal passage. When the sinuses are healthy, mucus is able to
drain and air is able to enter in and out of the nasal passage.
Although a link between acid reflux and sinus problems hasn’t
been recognized, there are some who link the two. It is important
to visit an ear, nose and throat specialist if you are experiencing
acid reflux and sinus problems. A doctor can confirm if you have
either or both of these ailments and can provide you with the correct
treatments and procedures to help you cope and hopefully treat the
problems.
