Whipworms:
Trichuris Trichiura & Trichuriasis
Information & Prevention
Whipworms are parasitic roundworms
that infect the large intestine. They develop in climates that are
warm and moist. Whipworms are very long and have a whiplike shape.
Whipworm disease is called Trichuriasis.
If a severe infection of whipworms occurs then symptoms could include:
stomach pain, bloody stools, diarrhea, and weight loss. Most cases
of whipworm infections go undetected because the symptoms get missed
or there are no symptoms at all. Whipworm eggs are transmitted typically
from hand to mouth.
