Asthma Symptoms Commonly Experienced by Sufferers

Asthma is a chronic condition that affects the amount of air that flows through your bronchial tubes. This illness causes the body to produce more mucous in the tubes and in turn clog the airway passages that deliver air into your lungs. There are roughly 300 million people in the world afflicted with this ailment and all of them probably experienced some of the same asthma symptoms. These asthma symptoms can vary depending on the person and the type of asthma they are suffering from, but it all leads to the failure of taking a full, satisfactory breath. Other common asthma symptoms include coughing, mostly at night; wheezing, chest tightness, and chest pain and pressure.

If you haven’t been diagnosed, there are asthma symptoms that serve as early warning signs that you may have the debilitating disease. Those asthma symptoms include:
  • Feeling overly tired or weak during exercise
  • Frequently coughing, especially at night
  • Not only feeling overly tired during exercise, but also coughing or wheezing
  • Not being able to sleep well
  • Signs of a cold or allergies
If preventative steps aren’t taken quickly or aren’t taken diligently, your asthma symptoms may worsen. Signs that your asthma is taking a turn for the worse include:
  • An increase in number of asthma symptoms and an increase in their severity
  • A fall in peak flow rates, which is measured by a device that checks how well your lungs are taking in air
  • A heightened need to take medications that help with the opening of your airways and the relaxation of surrounding muscles
If your asthma symptoms are indeed worsening, contact your physician to determine what can be done to lessen your symptoms and control your asthma. You may need to take a trip to the emergency room if there is no sign of a reduction in your asthma symptoms. Your physician can help you recognize signs of when it is essential for you to head to a hospital.
