The concept of energy healers has been around centuries, and reiki is the ancient Japanese practice of healing through energy. The reiki practitioner alternative doctor believes that they can harness their personal healing energy, called ki, and can project the ki through their palms to influence the energy of others and cause the physical and mental healing of the patient.
There are three levels of reiki practitioner:
- First degree - This practitioner can heal themselves and others with the use of their ki.
- Second degree - A second degree reiki practitioner can heal without having to be near their patient (called distance healing) and is considered to be extremely skilled in the practice.
- Master - The reiki master is capable of the advancing healing skills of a second degree healer, and can also teach reiki to others.
Reiki is believed to be best used on emotional distress like depression, anxiety, and stress. While there's been little scientific proof that a reiki practitioner can influence the health of their patients with their energy, there are a variety of people who have found relief with the practice and feel that its calming effects can positively influence the moods of people seeking treatment from these holistic practitioners.
