Prostate
Treatment: Common Remedies for Prostatitis
For
a relatively small part of a man’s body, the prostate gland
is capable of causing many health problems which have resulted in
a variety of prostate treatment options. Lying just below a man’s
urinary bladder, the prostate gland is commonly described as being
about the size and shape of a walnut. The prostate gland also surrounds
the tube that travels from the urinary bladder to outside the body,
so just about any prostate problem will prompt a urinary problem.
Prostate
treatment options range from lifestyle changes to drugs to surgery,
depending on what prostate condition a man is diagnosed with. One
major category of prostate problems is prostatitis. This condition
involves a swelling and infection of the prostate gland, so prostate
treatment will focus on fighting the infection and reducing the
inflammation.
While
prostatitis can be categorized into four major types, prostatitis
is generally an inflammation or bacterial infection of the prostate
gland. When a man has prostatitis, he may experience fever, chills,
pain, and many urinary problems. The initial prostate treatment
for prostatitis will likely be antibiotics, but prostatitis is known
for being resistant to antibiotic drugs. Other prostate treatments
for prostatitis are pain relievers, physical therapy, exercise,
and warm baths. Lifestyle changes may also be helpful as a prostate
treatment, such as drinking plenty of water, avoiding alcohol and
caffeine, and urinating regularly. If antibiotics and other prostate
treatment options do not clear up prostatitis, surgery may be recommended
to open blocked prostate gland ducts. There are also natural prostate
treatment options which have shown great promise, including saw
palmetto, zinc, and quercetin.
