Proactive Skin Care: Address Epidermis Issues Before They Happen

As they say, “prevention is the best cure,” and this line of thinking applies to skin care as well. Rather than address issues as they arise, taking a proactive skin care approach allows you to reduce both health and aesthetic issues before they occur. There are many different methods for a proactive skin care approach, but there are a few factors that they should all include.
A well-rounded proactive skin care routine should incorporate the following:

  • Regular use of sunscreen
  • Daily use of moisturizer
  • A well-balanced diet that includes fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and protein
  • Not smoking

Arguably the most important of the above proactive skin care methods is not smoking. Not only does smoking have a plethora of other negative health impacts, but it can cause wrinkles, fine lines, and dull skin. Proactive skin care is all about stopping problems before they start, and smoking is in complete opposition to this approach, as it speeds up the appearance of wrinkles. By reducing circulation to the skin’s surface, smoking reduces transmission of Vitamin A and results in the breakdown of elastin and collagen, both integral parts of smooth, supple skin. Further approaches to proactive skin care include eating omega-3 fatty acids, which are said to improve both the look and feel of skin, as well as wearing hats and clothing to protect from UV exposure.
