Parasitic Worms in Humans
Parasitic worms in humans are the most common type of human parasites in the world. These worms are often contracted through eating contaminated food and drink or skin contact with the worm. Millions of people across the globe are infected with parasitic worms, and many of them may not even realize it.
There are a variety of parasitic worms that humans can become unwilling hosts to, but the most common are:
- Pinworms
- Hookworms
- Roundworms
- Whipworms
To a lesser degree, there are other parasites that can infect humans and cause a variety of problems. These include guinea worms, nematodes, protozoa, and other flukes and flat worms.
Parasitic human worms in humans cause damage by robbing their hosts of vital nutrients, damaging cell tissue, and producing toxic waste. Diagnosis can be difficult, because in many cases symptoms are vague and mild, or no symptoms are detected at all. Sometimes the only way to ensure you are not infested with parasites is by getting regularly tested and cleansing your system.
