Neti Pot Salt
The neti pot has been used for centuries in India and other Eastern cultures to ease nasal congestion caused by allergies. What makes the neti pot so efficient at rinsing out and revitalizing sinuses, however, is the solution that is used. A mixture of warm distilled or sterile water and neti pot salt is flushed through the sinus cavity, removing debris and mucus from the nasal passage and sinuses.
First time users of this ancient remedy find the idea of using what looks like a teapot to flush neti pot salt and water through their nose to be unusual, but once the initial feeling of discomfort passes and the sufferer experiences the refreshed, decongested feeling they are left with after using a neti pot for their allergies, they often become life-long supporters of the practice.
Neti pots are easy to use and generally safe for people of all ages. Simply mix warm distilled or sterile water and neti pot salt together until the salt is dissolved. Put the solution in the pot, tilt your head to the side over a sink or other receptacle, breathe through your mouth, and insert the spout into the nostril that is facing up. Let the neti pot salt solution flush through your nose and sinuses and come out the other nostril. Blow your nose, and experience the refreshed feeling of easy breathing.
It may take some practice and getting used to, but like so many people worldwide for centuries, you may soon discover the allergy relief that a neti pot sinus rinse can provide.
