Naturopathy Definition

Naturopathy DefinitionThe definition of naturopathy has to do more with its principles than its practices, and the practice includes a diverse mishmash of different types of treatments. Literally, the naturopathy definition is a combination of Greek and Latin words which mean "nature disease", but this can be misleading because it is actually the use of natural remedies to prevent disease, rather than a disease caused by nature.

Aside from what the definition of naturopathy may imply, the practice is actually based on the concept of vitalism which has been the cornerstone throughout the history of naturopathy. This is the belief that the body's process are governed by a vital energy which must be nurtured in order to stay health., Naturopaths, or those who practice naturopathic medicine, use natural remedies and techniques in an attempt to keep a person's vital energy strong in order to prevent illness and promote naturopathic healing.

Some of the techniques used in naturopathy include:

  • Acupuncture
  • Herbal medicine
  • Massage
  • Live blood analysis
  • Reflexology
  • Homeopathy
  • Chinese medicine
  • Exercises
  • Much more

If you have any questions about the naturopathy definition and how this practice may be able to help you maintain good health, meet with a local naturopath to learn more. However, before you begin any new treatment, you should first consult with your primary care provider to ensure you are healthy enough for this or any other alternative therapy.
