Doctors of Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic medicine is a type of alternative treatment that has garnered a lot if support in recent decades. Unlike many other types of alternative medicine that adhere to strict practices, this form of medicine is a broad practice that offers many options for patients. Because of the wide range of techniques, there are many different types of naturopaths, also known as doctors of naturopathy.
There are two main types of naturopaths: traditional naturopathic doctors and doctors of naturopathic medicine. While they may sound similar, each practices naturopathy differently based on the restraints of their certification. Unlike naturopathic doctors, doctors of naturopathic medicine (or naturopathic physicians) usually have some kind of medical degree and are able to perform techniques, such as intravenous treatment and blood analysis, that traditional naturopaths cannot. Naturopathic physicians are represented by the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and often have to get board certified in order to practice these more complicated treatments. In fact, they are often primary doctors that also practice naturopathic techniques as a complementary therapy along with conventional medicine.
Even though naturopathic physicians are usually licensed doctors, unless your primary also practices naturopathy, you should still consult with your normal doctor before pursuing naturopathic treatments. |
