Examining
Each Stage of Alzheimers Disease
According to the Alzheimers Association,
there are seven different stages of Alzheimers disease. Each stage
has been observed and documented by researchers over a number of
years, to come up with a distinct classification of the disease’s
progression. Each stage is as follows:
- Stage 1 – No impairment, no memory
loss or other problems functioning
- Stage 2 – Very mild cognitive impairment
presenting with small memory lapses
- Stage 3 – Mild cognitive decline,
others may begin to notice differences during this stage of
Alzheimers disease
- Stage 4 – Moderate cognitive decline,
problems begin appearing during medical examinations
- Stage 5 – Moderately severe cognitive
decline, major memory lapses begin during this stage, time and
date as well as personal details like phone numbers and addresses
may be lost
- Stage 6 – Severe cognitive decline
in self awareness and normal functioning, including loss of
control over bodily functions
- Stage 7 – Very severe cognitive decline,
speech, eating, walking, and more may become difficult or impossible
Alzheimers disease is a very serious condition,
and understanding each stage an individual will be likely to go
through can help everyone involved to handle each stage armed with
knowledge and understanding. If you are worried that you or a loved
one might be developing Alzheimers, it is important to inform a
healthcare provider to determine the best path to take.
