Memory Improvement Techniques: Unlocking the Key

If you do an online search for memory improvement techniques, you will literally find millions of different sources all with the so-called key to memory improvement. There are thousands of different techniques, books, experts, and classes you can utilize for extreme memory improvement. If you take a survey of what all of these different resources have in common, you will find that there is a distinct pattern forming. All of the different resources follow a simple set of basic guidelines that essentially perform as memory aides. Some of the different common denominators are:

  • Exercise and diet can substantially affect your memory. By keeping a diet low in saturated fat and working out regularly, you can improve your memory
  • Mind exercises – filling out crossword puzzling or doing other mind bending exercises can significantly improve your memory
  • Using memory aides – keeping your calendar and to do lists current can ease the burden on your memory and open it up for remembering other information
  • Visualization – engaging your mind with the information you would like to remember by picturing it or visualizing the information in a way to make it more meaningful can help send the information to your long term memory
Whatever techniques you use to help memory, keep in mind that it is important to be consistent. As we age we begin to lose healthy brain tissue as early as in our 40s. Keeping the mind healthy with a variety of techniques can help to prevent, or at least slow down, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. If you have a family history of memory related diseases, you should take every step possible to try and keep your memory active and intact for as long as possible.
