Meditation for Kids
Many people often consider meditation to be a practice that is only beneficial to adults, but may be shocked to learn that meditation for kids can be just as effective, if not more so. While it's true that meditation requires deep concentration and many children lack the discipline and ability to sit still that meditation requires, over time it can become easier, and the younger you start practicing meditation with your children, the better they will take to it.
One of the biggest benefits of meditation for children is that it teaches them to relax. Children can be suffering from stress and anxiety even if they do not show signs of it. The younger you provide kids with the tools to clear their heads, the more likely they will be to use these techniques as they get older to work through some of the more challenging aspects of growing up.
Studies have also shown than meditation can benefit children who suffer from ADHD. It may be difficult to get an ADHD child to sit still and focus long enough to achieve any benefits from meditation, but the more you work with the child the better they will get at calming their mind. This can help children with relaxion, focus, and to control their ADHD symptoms in conjunction with traditional western medicine.
If you are considering meditation for kids, consult with your primary care provider to discuss how the benefits of this practice can help your child, and then find an experienced meditation instructor to help you and your child learn the proper techniques to get the most out of this effective practice. |
