The "Stress" Associated with Learning Could be a Sign of an Underlying Condition
When a person has learning challenges such as slow speech, problems memorizing, problems with math, slower motor skills, and other cognitive obstacles, they can often see themselves as unable to keep up and perform as well as others, and may face undue criticism. This causes stress, frustration and anxiety in addition to their daily struggle.
Neurology and Nutrition are involved in Stress and Learning Disabilities
A learning disorder or disability can come from many factors, like heredity, a head injury, or exposure to toxic substances. But sometimes, learning difficulty may be caused by nutritional shortages in the body that don't allow the person's neurological signals between the brain and central nervous system to function and communicate properly.
When stress increases, the body needs more calories and would normally break down protein into natural amino acids, sugars and phosphate bonds. But sometimes the body lacks the ability to synthesize amino acids that perform many important functions. Some physicians recommend at least 30 percent of a standard diet should be made up of amino acids when the body is under stress.
As the body stops this breakdown, the emotional effects and physiological symptoms of stress and anxiety are also lessened. This is why stress management for the learning challenged is very important.
If you or your child is experiencing stress from a learning challenge, speak with your health care provider. Your doctor will be able to give you more information about the causes of your stress, and assist you in creating a health plan to cope with your challenges.
