While allergies can plague people of all ages and walks of life, there are few people who are more affected by the symptoms of allergies than children. Especially for young kids, allergies can be frightening and confusing the first time they are experienced. Some severe allergies are present at birth, and must be quickly diagnosed to prevent costly exposure once you take your baby home, while some allergies arise over time as your child's immune system develops. Regardless of the type or severity of kids' allergies, it is important to have a conversation with your health care provider and your child in order to make living with the symptoms as easy as possible.

It can be difficult to tell what kind of allergies children may develop, if any at all, although medical advancements are making early detection and prevention easier than ever. Simple blood tests of newborn children, and even when children are still in the womb in some cases, can often detect severe allergies before the baby is even taken home from the hospital. In most cases, however, it is a matter of trial and error.
If you suspect your child has had an allergic reaction, it is important they see a doctor as soon as possible. Some kids have allergies that can get worse as they age, and early detection and treatment can help to keep life-threatening emergencies from happening later down the road.
