Integrative Medicine
Of all the types of alternative healing that are available today, integrative medicine is one of the most progressive. Unlike many other kinds of holistic healing that focus exclusively on natural ways to keep the body healthy, integrative medicine also incorporates conventional practices. It is also commonly known as complementary medicine, and integrative medicine follows holistic philosophy that the body should be treated as a whole, not just a variety of symptoms, and takes the mind, body, and spirit into consideration when treating a condition.
Some forms of integrative medicine include:
- Herbal medicine
- Massage therapy
- Acupuncture
- Biofeedback
- Yoga
- Integrative nutrition
- Stress reduction
- Many others
It is reported that nearly a third of all people have used a form of alternative medicine, and 24% of hospitals in 2004 offered alternative treatments to their patients. However, it is important to understand that integrative medicine is used with conventional medicine, and not as a replacement for it. It is important to include and consult with your primary health care provider to ensure you receive the best care possible for your condition and health needs in order to achieve optimum health from integrative medicine and holistic healing. |
