Yohimbe (Yohimbe Bark Extract, African Yohimbe Bar)
Yohimbe comes from
the yohimbe tree, a tall evergreen tree that is native to
Africa. The bark of the Pausinystalia yohimbe tree has been
shown to be a powerful treatment for male impotence. Yohimbine
is the most active part of the herbal product yohimbe. While
Yohimbe and Yohimbine are two different substances, many people
use the terms interchangeably. Yohimbe is comprised of only
about 10 percent Yohimbine. The rest of Yohimbe consists of
other chemicals. Yohimbine is used in prescription medicine
to treat erectile dysfunction, or ED, which is the inability
to maintain an erection of the penis for sexual intercourse.
Yohimbe appears to relax and widen the blood vessels in the
penis, which would increase blood flow and thus treat the
symptoms of erectile dysfunction.
Yohimbe bark has been used
for impotence and erectile dysfunction historically. Recently
the Lancet (Lancet, Aug. 22, 87, p. 421-423.) reported from
a 10 week, double blind controlled study of humans, that yohimbine,
an alkaloid extracted from the bark was effective in restoring
erectile function in cases of psychogenic impotence (i.e.
impotence that was not physical in origin, but derives from
a psychological condition.) Another study from Stanford University
indicated that yohimbine increased sexual motivation and activity
in rats. (Herbalgram, 5, p.7, 1985) Used as a Homeopathic
or used simply as a micro-nutritional (botanical).
(Homeopathic potencies accredit their strength and efficacy
to the electromagnetic signatures of the original substrate;
these are scientifically created dilutions and succussions
of medicines such that generally not even a molecule of the
original substrate or medicine is present in the medicine).
As a Homeopathic or used simply as a micro-nutritional, it
has demonstrated effectiveness against the following symptomology:
"It greatly increases the sexual desire in men and in animals.
Useful for anemic, thin, nervous and partly impotent men.
Neurasthenic impotence." (Blackwood).
