Uncaria Tomentosa (Peruvian Cat's Claw)
Uncaria tomentosa
is also called “cat’s claw” and “claw
vine,” and it refers to more than 20 different species
native to Peru and surrounding rain forests. Uncaria tomentosa
is called Cat’s Claw because the hooks of the plant
resemble a cat’s claw. Uncaria tomentosa, or Peruvian
Cat’s Claw, is used for infections, wound healing, and
immune system health. Uncaria tomentosa, or Peruvian Cat’s
Claw, has a variety of alkaloids and other compounds that
research has shown to be beneficial for reducing the occurrence
of lung infections, boosting the immune system, and reducing
inflammation.
Not to be confused with the
Chinese Cat's Claw which aids in the rebalancing of the nervous
system, Peruvian Cat's Claw has been found especially effective
in revitalizing and enhancing immune system activity. Studies
from South America have reported some effectiveness against
cancerous tissue, and it appears especially important and
efficacious when chemotherapy has been previously applied.
