Suma (Pfaffia paniculata)
Suma is a Brazilian herb, also
called Brazilian Ginseng, with medicinal roots which is believed
to enhance the immune system and fits the role of an "adaptogen"
(allowing cellular life to be prolonged biochemically), containing
saponins called pfaffosides, which are unique to the species,
and sitosterol and stigmasterol (safe plant growth steroids
found beneficial to the heart and aids in lowering high cholesterol
levels in the blood) and beta-ecdysone. Also, suma contains
organic germanium, thus acts as an antioxidant fighting free
radicals.
Suma is used primarily as a potent folk medicine in the jungles
of Brazil , a wide variety of functions have been ascribed to
its nature, including protection against viral infections, blood
purification, healing and preventing disease, and balancing
hormonal levels. Suma also has a three century old reputation
from the natives of Brazil as being an aphrodisiac, restoring
sexual function in both men and women. One of the active ingredients
in Suma is beta-ecdysterone, an anabolic agent helps the body
produce more protein within the muscle cell cytoplasm, while
lowering blood sugars levels, as well as improving protein synthesis
