Serenoa repens (Saw Palmetto Berries, Saw Palmetto)
Saw palmetto berry consists of
the ripe, dried fruit of Serenoa repens (Bartram) (Small, syn.
Sabal serrulata) (Michaux) (Nutall ex Schultzes) as well as
its preparations in effective dosage. Saw Palmetto's action
is thought to be both antiandrogenic and antiexcudative, having
active phytomedicinals including polysaccharides, sitosterol,
tannins, phytosterol and fatty oils. Saw Palmetto has been found
to act effectively against certain prostate problems in males,
especially urination problems in benign prostate hyperplasia
stages l and ll, nocturnal micturition, problems in urination
(passing water), reduction in the urine stream, and problems
regularly passing urine. This phytomedicinal alone relieves
the difficulties associated with an enlarged prostate without
reducing the enlargement.
A doctor should be consulted at regular intervals when using
Saw Palmetto. Saw Palmetto may be used as a Homeopathic or used
