Plantago psyllium major (Plantaginaceae, Psyllium)
Long known and used in India and Asia for its cleansing properties
in the lower tract, now the fiber and seeds of Psyllium are used
safely world wide in keeping our digestion system clean by gently
helping the body remove old undigested debris from the walls of the
intestine. Used also for the following symptoms: cramp-like pains,
diarrhoea, loss of appetite. Indications for use include chronic
constipation, irritable colon. Psyllium has been found to help
naturally and safely regulate intestinal peristalsis, or the movement
of food materials throughout the gut. Minor contraindications include
stenosis of the oesophagus or the gastrointestinal tract.
In rare case expect some side effects of allergic reactions,
especially with powdered substance and liquid preparations,
also absorption of other drugs or nutraceuticals taken simultaneously
could be delayed because of its sweeping and cleansing action.
Active substance is a family of mucolagins.
Refloralization with friendly gut bacteria is recommended
after prolonged use to restore intestinal flora for
healthy digestion thereafter.Used also as a Homeopathic
or used simply as a micro-nutritional in certain potencies
