Phosphatidylcholine
Phosphatidylcholine is an essential
and critical member of a class of phospholipids (phosphatides)
found in all tissues, especially in brain and nerve tissues.
Phosphatidylcholine is the more biologically active form of
choline ( a Vitamin B cofactor) which is an important precursor
of the excitatory neurotransmitter acetylcholine, the major
"memory" molecule of the brain often found depleted in those
with Alzheimers' disease.
Without Phosphatidylcholine, Acetylcholine can not be produced,
which then ceases the release of Vasopressin (necessary for
learning) and Dopamine (necessary for new dendrite growth and
neural expansion so that learning can occur).Additionally, free
(or unattached) choline, as well as Inositol, are often referred
to as "lipotropic substances" in that they are required for
the removal of fats from the liver and cardiovascular system.
Much of the phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylinositol in
human tissue is part of the intracellular and plasma membranes
as well as in the myelin surrounding neural tissues.
Phosphatidylcholine is an ingredient in the following product(s):
