NADH is a substance with Mol.Wt.
663. and is a coenzyme form of the vitamin niacin, used to exchange
hydrogen atoms with substrate molecules. NAD or NADH is necessary
for tissue respiration, through its association with the dehydrogenases.
Lactate dehydrogenase, malate dehydrogenase, and beta-hydroxybutyrate
dehydrogenase are examples of enzymes that require NAD as a
coenzyme. It is through the oxidation of NADH that accounts
for the major conversion of oxidation energy to chemical energy,
ATP, involved in glycolysis.
