Myristic Acid
Myristic acid is a saturated 14-carbon
saturated fatty acid occuring in most animal and vegetables
- particularly in butterfat and coconut, palm and nutmeg oils.
Myristic acid gets its name from nutmeg, which is scientifically
called Myristica fragrans. The reason for this is because nutmeg
is comprised of a high concentration of trimyristin, which is
myristic acid's triglyceride.
