Methyl-Sulfonyl Methane (MSM)
MSM is a natural form of organic
sulfur, found in all living organisms, and throughout our body
tissues and fluids. MSM is part of DMSO discovered by Dr. Stanley
Jacob of the University of Oregon, Department of Health Sciences.
MSM is the molecule which allows flexible bonds to exist between
proteins. MSM is an integral part of collagen building, connective
tissue and bone regeneration. When cells dies, new cells generally
takes their place, but without sufficient MSM, the cells become
rigid, finding it difficult to slough off, and allow new cells
to take their place.
With insufficient MSM, new cells will not be made, and old cells
remain inflexible entrenched, damning the system up. MSM makes
cells "soft" and "pliable" again, thereafter allowing inflammation
to be reduced, while permitting cell regeneration (healing and
muscle building) to naturally take place again. Thus the use
of supplemental MSM before surgery or intense workout generally
aids in the healing process. MSM is found naturally occurring
in raw fruits and vegetables, meat, fish and milk. MSM apparently
becomes depleted due to metabolic stress of injury, surgery
or intense exercise.
