Linden (Tiliaceae, Tilia europaea/cordata, Linden)
Linden is a tree often found in
England. Historically, this tree has not only been found for
centuries within the fine homes of England and Europe in the
form of beautifully carved works of art, but also as a calming
tonic to relieve nervous stress and tension. Cosmetically, its
leaves are known to soothe the skin from irritation. Interestingly,
Linden's old or aging flowers should be avoided in the preparations
of teas as it can cause intoxication. However, parts of this
tree have been used to relieve symptoms of the common cold and
flu, inflammation, headache, and high blood pressure. Linden
is also used as a diuretic and is said to have antispasmodic
properties.
