Lauric acid is a fatty acid that
occurs naturally in laurel, coconut and palm oils, and is especially
abundant in coconut oil. As one of the medium-length long-chain
fatty acids, lauric acid is part of the class of organic compounds
known as lipids, which are vital in the construction of cellular
membranes. This ingredient is responsible for formation of monolaurin
in the human or animal body. Lauric acid is also said to have
antimicrobial properties.
