Kalmegh (Andrographis paniculata)
Kalmegh, which is also know by
its scientific name of Andrographis paniculata, is an ancient
East Indian Herb used for centuries to fight the common cold
and flu. In recent studies, and those performed earlier in China
and Taiwan, Kalmegh demonstrated that it can indeed reduce the
severity of symptoms associated with cold and flu including
muscle soreness, headaches, nasal congestion, cough, throat,
pain and fever. Earlier controlled studies of Kalmegh found
that in 83% of patients with colds, body temperature returned
to normal in two days, significantly more so than with controls
and placebo, where sinusitis and other cold symptoms were found
to significantly improve. [Phytomedicine 1997, 3(4):315-318].
