Glucomannan
Glucomannan is a natural plant
fiber mainly derived from corm and konjac and which the Asians
and Japanese have long since used as a dietary aid, filling
the stomach by absorbing water and other digested and undigested
substance, at times inhibiting further digestion and thus possibly
preventing the further assimilation of calories. It has also
been used to treat hypoglycemia, constipation, diabetes, high
cholesterol, and high blood pressure. When combined with water,
Glucomannan becomes a gooey, gel-like substance that is unable
to be digested and simply moves through the body. For this reason,
Glucomannan is also frequently used for weight loss, as it makes
one feel full faster and increases the length of time one feels
full, along with slowing the absorption of other materials.
