Decosahexaenoic Acid
Decosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) is
an omega 3 essential fatty acid (unsaturated fatty acid) that
is found in fish oils. There have been shown in numerous studies
that show DHA having the ability to lower blood triglyceride
and to lower cholesterol levels, as well as the ability to raise
high density lipoprotein ( HDL), the good cholesterol. Further,
DHA has been shown to reduce the incidence of blood clots and
lower platelet aggregation. All of the above effects contribute
to a lower risk of heart attack and other heart problems. DHA
is also found in the retina of the eye and in the gray matter
of the brain. A deficiency of DHA can lead to problems in those
areas.
