Chymotrypsin (Trypsin)
Chymotrypsin is one of the proteolytic
enzymes secreted by the pancreas. A digestive enzyme needed
to cleave proteins into peptides and amino acids, it continues
the hydrolytic action begun by pepsin, and together they break
molecules into smaller and smaller peptide fragments. Chymotrypsin
specifically hydrolyzes/cleaves proteins at the amino acids
in phenylalanine and tyrosine peptide linkages and ester bonds.
This ingredient does its work in the small intestines. Chymotrypsin
is generally used to aid in digestion and as an anti-inflammatory.
This ingredient is also helpful for those with diseases, such
as cystic fibrosis, in which the pancreas produce insufficient
amounts of enzymes.
