Cherry Bark (Cherry Bark Extract, Prunis avium)
The bark of the cherry tree (Prunis
avium/Prunus avium), which is native to certain parts of Europe,
is thought to tone and brighten the skin to a "cherry" complexion,
adding color by tingling the skin into a rosy complexion as
well as allowing the hair to show its highlights. Cherry bark
is useful in combination with many other herbs to the skin and
hair. Native Americans used to use the North American species
of cherry tree bark to help with diarrhea and other digestive
problems. It has also been used as a cough syrup and may aid
in conditions such as bronchitis and whooping cough, as well
as asthma. Applied topically, cherry bark may alleviate ulcers.
Further, the bark of this tree is said to have astringent properties
and be an antitussive and diuretic.
