Catechol (Catecholamines)
Pyrocatechols, which are more
commonly known as catechols, are the direct precursors of neurochemicals
called catecholamines, which are biologically active amines
derived from the amino acid Tyrosine. They are natural occurring
hormonal-like neurotransmitters, substances that act as extra
cellular messengers between the brain, central nervous tissue,
cardiovascular and endocrine systems. Without catechols, messages
in these systems is impaired and may result in mental issues
such as attention deficit disorder. Catechols can be released
during periods of stress, causing glycogen mobilization and
triglyceride hydrolysis.
