Caprylic Acid
Caprylic acid is a partially water-soluble,
medium-chain saturated fatty acid. This ingredient can be produced
by the body in small quantities, but it can also be extracted
from plant fats such as coconut oil and plam oil. Caprylic acid
is rapidly reduced to coenzyme A in the liver. It is a component
of synthetic medium chain triglyceride supplements comprising
approximately 70% of total fatty acids. Caprylic acid is said
to have antifungal properties, and it is often used to treat
yeast infections. Further, this ingredient is purported to have
antibacterial properties, and may help against certain diseases,
including Staphylococcus aureus.
