Burdock (Arctium lappa, Edible Burdock, Lappa)
A member of the Asteraceae family,
Burdock is an herb used especially in China to safely help stimulate
perspiration, useful when ill or experiencing flu-like symptoms.
Thought to hasten the fever-stage of an illness by specifically
raising body temperature so as to destroy viral infections by
body heat. Burdock is also said to be a diaphoretic, as well
as a diuretic and blood purifying agent. This ingredient is
high in essential fatty acids (ETAs) and the oil of Burdock
is used in Europe as a hair treatment to enhance hair's health
and promote growth. The roots of Burdock are the parts generally
used for medicinals, but the leaves and fruit are also used.
