Borago officinalis (Borage, Borage Oil-GLA)
The common thread of history or
tale about Borago officinalis is it's believed capacity to make
people merry, happy and glad, a tonic of optimism and strength.
The Celtic name borrach meant courage and the Welsh name Llawenlys
translates as "herb of gladness."
According to Dioscorides and Pliny, Borago officinalis was the
famed nepenthe of Homer, an herb wine which brought blithesome
forgetfulness of past woes and new-found strength of character.
Early research indicates that extracts from this herb contain
gamma linolenic acid (GLA), high concentrations of potassium
and other mineral salts, some of the Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs)
and Vitamin C as well. Quite simply, these may act to enhance
our thinking and give stamina to the body.
